Fresh Palette

Created in 2009, Design Seeds is a color journal of sorts that serves as an idea book for home remodeling, crafts, and wedding palettes. Although the photos are not explained through paint chips, they include hex codes for every individual color. Find out more about our interior and exterior design, interior architecture, decoration, and deco makeover projects in India. As one that can spend hours in a paint department playing with color chips (for the pleasure of looking at the colors, not for home decorating), I can relate to this. We offer concrete solutions adapted to the industry and today’s competitive market, and we give clients professional, economical, fair, and result-oriented services. By providing services at all stages of a project’s life cycle, we improve the project’s outcome, resulting in more responsive and cost-effective solutions.

Exploring the Unexpected: Unconventional Color Combinations

Although the colors Jessica creates are not actual paint chips, admirers can use the color codes as reference guides when purchasing paints. The adjustable gauge for each color palette allows you to play around with each color and see the changing outcome. Ultimately, Design Seeds helps foster an appreciation for the smallest parts of daily life. The feeling of stepping outside and being completely taken with your surroundings is a feeling that nature lovers know all too well. Jessica Colaluca from Design Seeds has created a smart way to seamlessly incorporate nature's abundance of colors into constructive color swatches. Surrounded by the bounty of seasonal crops in Wisconsin's countryside, where she resides,  Jessica has a keen eye for seeing the beauty in ordinary things.

11 Holiday Decorating Ideas Designers Love

holiday design ideas

Wrap the swags around your banister or let them drape over a mantel. The best part about this DIY project is you can make the garland as thin or full as you like, so it can be displayed anywhere in the home. Repurpose your collection of past holiday cards by turning them into beautiful ornaments, which you can hang on your tree or display in a cloche. Make the ornaments as small or large as you like (and as the cards will allow). Making and crafting are regular parts of the holidays that many people enjoy. As the holidays come around, many people want to make, instead of buy, some of their Christmas decorations.

Outdoor Decorations

Windowsills are great for displaying things like holiday villages or candles, and garland always looks nice as a frame. Likewise, wreaths, paper stars or snowflakes, and banners also work well here. Another option is to throw some texture into the mix, in the form of chargers. I recommend mercury glass, woven jute, or hammered bronze for very elegant options. For a take on East-meets-West, try these Korean-style bronze dishes brushed with dramatic tree-sap lacquer.

Upcycle old or thrifted glass jars into elegant candle holders using gold leaf sheets, which is a surprisingly simple project. Begin with a clean surface, then lightly cover the area with adhesive using a paint brush. After the adhesive turns clear, place a sheet of gold leaf over the area and lightly smooth it with your handles. Turn a simple pine wreath into a unique display by adding citrus fruits and a blush ribbon. Take note from Kate O'Hara, CEO and creative director of Martha O'Hara Interiors, by hanging it on the bookshelf. Add a seasonal touch to your holiday table by quickly tying a bow on stemmed glassware, candle holders and a bundle of flatware.

The next time you are handed down a beautiful piece of family furniture from an elder, don't forsake it because you don't have the room. Save these heirlooms for seasonal occasions, and use them in your Christmas decorating. Showcase them during the most wonderful time of the year by putting them on display. This mahogany buffet may not be useful all year round, but during the holiday season, it is a perfect place to serve Christmas brunch.

Start by gathering five magnolia leaves, two other kinds of evergreens (we used cypress and pine), spiral eucalyptus, and a cluster of berries. Position the grouping so the magnolia acts as the backdrop; this will give the arrangement structure. When you like the look, secure the base of the stems with florist tape.

2018 Christmas meat menu/pamphlet,something that will fold up into 4 sections. Aiming for gold label look highlighting the family farm, incorporating logo and family photo on the back page. Attractive web design for small apartments and holiday houses. Red-striped napkins and place mats work as "covers" for pillows.

Elegant and Easy Embellishments

Fill each envelope with treats that are joyful and surprising such as candy canes, gift certificate to the ice cream parlor, or a coupon good for an extra hour of video games. With the promise of a small treasure each day, the young and young at heart will love counting down the days to Christmas. You provide feedback, hone your favorites and choose a winner.

You may choose to buy a few of the best Christmas decorations, but there's nothing quite like DIY Christmas decorations to give your space a cozy style. As long as you keep your color scheme consistent, you don't have to decorate in traditional reds, greens, and golds. This rule is especially true when using a flocked Christmas tree. Turn your house into a winter wonderland by choosing an icy, sparkly theme that is sure leave a lasting impression on guests.

As much as we love the traditional Christmas tree-topping gold star, sometimes, the classic tree topper doesn't fit the room. Here, the metallic pastel color scheme need a tree topper that is a little more delicate and feminine. Instead of the traditional five-pointed star, try a soft, color-coordinating wire ribbon. Tie an oversize apricot bow with the ends cascading down the tree for extra drama. The ribbon ends should be cut so that they just skim the floor. Sometimes, the best way to decorate a Christmas tree is with memories collected by your family.

Start with a delicately embroidered ivory runner for a hint of warmth and texture. For dazzle, fill silver mint-julep cups with beautifully frosted pinecones. Greet holiday guests with a sweet indoor winter wonderland entry display. Decorate foam cones from the craft store with rock candy to create your own sparkly scene.

White paint and a red stenciled message complete the festive scene. Fresh greenery, a large red ball, red-painted pinecones and a bright bow look festive in this wintry scene. For a garland-like effect, spray-paint tree lights' cords a bright hue (remove bulbs and stuff sockets with cotton). Top silver candlesticks with silvery painted pinecones for a glittering display. Group several on a tray, and add some blue or silver ornaments for even more impact.

These creative Christmas wrapping ideas are perfect for any gift. Choose a theme – traditional, natural, vintage, glitzy, coastal, or rustic – you can't go wrong. Purchase small trinkets for decorative touch, like the wooden reindeer, glittery initial, cotton clipping, or bell and ornament pictured above. By layering paper, ribbon, and tags, you can create a picture-perfect package. Pressed for time but want a big show to greet guests and carolers on your front porch? After the holidays, plant the magnolia in the garden for a year-round token of holiday cheer.

For added impact, attach cascading ribbon or garland from the bottom of your hanging tree topper. This modern Christmas tree makes a big impact without appearing over-decorated or tired, and will stand out among the rest in creativity and originality. Clement uses her color palette—here, a medley of whites, creams, and muted pastel touches—to guide her ornament-selection process.

If you are lucky enough to find a few still on the branches, snag them from your yard. Dusty miller greenery adds a touch of softness to this display, and the magnolia leaves, pine, and a sprig of holly berries round out the arrangement. Let pretty vessels, like julep cups, vintage glassware, or family heirloom goblets show off your arrangements. “Don't underestimate the touches a few glass ornaments can make,” Rachel Alcorn says.

Does wearing hats cause hair loss?

can wearing a hat cause hair loss

Factors like family history, hormonal changes, and medical conditions play a more substantial role. It’s possible, Miteva says, that if someone is already predisposed to baldness, that constant hat wearing could, in theory, speed up the process. “These are men wearing tight hats who are programmed to develop androgenic alopecia with or without wearing a hat,” she says.

Some other factors that could contribute to hair loss:

Wearing a hat in a heated environment, such as in the summer months or during a gym workout, will no doubt cause you to sweat. And the more you sweat, the more yeast, and bacteria are likely to grow on your scalp, causing dandruf, irritation and ultimately contributing to some amount of shedding. You can rest assured that this minor shedding simply means that the hair has reached the end of its life, and ultimately, your hat had nothing to do with it. So whether you are partial to a panama, a fedora, a sunhat, or a plain old cap, you’ll be glad to know that whatever your preferred headwear, it has no relation to a moulting mane. Understanding what’s behind your hair loss is essential since treatment depends on the cause.

The myth: wearing hats can cause hair loss

While it may only be a few, it’s enough to make you want to bin your bucket hat for fear of worsening a receding hairline. Luckily, there are many birth control options available—and pills and other hormone-based solutions come in a variety of formulas. In these instances, the hair loss is typically telogen effluvium, which occurs when the hair follicles “pause” temporarily in response to the stress. While it can be a frustrating experience, it’s normal for follicles to resume functioning and for lost hair to be replaced. Its life cycle dictates the rhythm of hair growth, rest, and shedding through the anagen, catagen, and telogen phases.

What lifestyle changes can help me avoid prostate cancer?

can wearing a hat cause hair loss

If you’re experiencing hair loss and wear a hat a lot, you might be worried that your headwear is causing hair loss. In this article we explore what causes hair loss and the effects of wearing a hat on hair loss. While deficiencies in certain nutrients can play a role in hair loss, it’s fairly uncommon—those who don’t have a medical condition typically get enough necessary nutrients from their diets.

This April marks Stress Awareness month in the US, a calendar moment designed to raise awareness of the pervasive and damaging nature of stress. While we know that stress is an undeniable factor in most people’s lives, its impact on so many aspects of our physical and mental health is perhaps more far reaching than we might imagine. Well, hair loss is usually caused by a variety of factors, including age, genetics, lifestyle, medication, medical changes, and hormonal changes. On the whole, it’s important that you speak with your doctor about any symptoms you’re experiencing. A dermatologist can provide a proper diagnosis, and select a personalized treatment that will help restore health to you hair and scalp.

How to prevent balding

To prevent traction alopecia, opt for looser-fitting hats that give your hair and scalp room to breathe, Dr. Geria recommends. Styles such as very tight pigtails or cornrows can cause traction alopecia, a kind of gradual hair loss caused by a continuous pulling force applied to the hair. Hair loss can also happen when hair follicles are ruined and replaced by scar tissue, which could possibly happen if you’re wearing a very tight hat.

How much hair loss is normal?

Having a family history of hair loss is the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women. Read to learn more about the connection between hats and hair loss. While smoking-related hair loss is not necessarily reversible, it is advisable to try quitting smoking. However, it is not yet clear whether it is possible to reverse hair loss due to smoking. Currently, no studies suggest that hair loss improves after stopping smoking, so further research is still necessary. Evidence notes that when a person quits smoking, it is possible to undo some of the damage caused by the harmful effects of smoking.

Ways to Prevent Traction Alopecia

Post-pregnancy hair loss can also occur without giving birth, although reports of hair loss after abortions or miscarriages are less common. Although genetics are to blame for pattern hair loss, there are other behaviors, activities, or factors that can exacerbate pattern hair loss or cause other types of balding. To understand them, though, we need to know just a little bit about how hair grows. While losing the hair on our heads doesn’t have any serious medical implications on its own, it can be seriously damaging to our psyches.

Tobacco smoke may also damage the DNA of follicle cells and lead to inflammation of the scalp, which is itself a risk factor for androgenetic alopecia. However, Cleveland Clinic dermatologist Dr. John Anthony said that wearing hats that are very tight or hot could possibly decrease blood flow to the hair follicles. That’s because the decrease in blood flow could stress the hair follicles and cause them to fall out. Such hair loss is usually temporary but could become permanent over time. Alopecia, or hair follicle loss, caused by hats, is a rare occurrence.

Hair is a barometer of your internal health, requiring a cocktail of nutrients to flourish. Insufficient intake of proteins, vitamins, and minerals can interrupt hair growth and maintenance. Understanding these factors is the first step in separating fact from fiction when it comes to what affects our hair’s vitality. Our goal is to arm you with knowledge, helping you distinguish between myth and medically supported facts so you can make informed decisions about hair care and restoration. If you really like to brush your hair, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that if you’re already going bald, it can make it worse.

To find out the answers, we spoke to Dendy Engelman, MD, FACMS, FAAD, a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and Mohs surgeon. Keep on reading for everything you need to know about how wearing hats can impact your strands, including whether or not they cause hair loss or damage. "An excessively tight hat could decrease the blood flow to hair follicles and the scalp, which could cause hair to fall out," Dr. Geria says. The most common reason for hair loss is androgenic (or androgenetic) alopecia, which is a medical term for male-pattern hair loss and female-pattern hair loss. There is another form of alopecia that is usually linked to wearing hats, and that is called friction alopecia.

While hats may seem like the culprit behind hair loss, they actually have numerous benefits. They can protect the head from cold temperatures and wind, help you avoid sunburn, and conceal a rough hair day. If you find yourself managing hair loss, it's best to look at other factors—including genetics, medical conditions, age, diet, and stress—to figure out what's causing your hair to fall out.

Traction alopecia is hair loss caused by repeated and severe stress on your hair follicles. Think of a tight ponytail or bun, taut braids or locs, heavy hair extensions, or overnight rollers. But traction alopecia can also happen when you repeatedly wear the same tight headgear, such as for religious reasons or a hard hat or helmet as part of a professional requirement. While it's possible to prevent some forms of hair loss, others aren't preventable. "However, some causes of hair loss are out of our control, and we can only treat them while facilitating the best possible conditions for a healthy scalp." "The exception would be if the hat is extremely tight or chafing, such that it causes tension on the hair and harms the scalp," says Engelman.

You would be surprised how much dirt, dust, and bacteria can accumulate in headgear. After all, you wouldn’t put the same pair of socks on your feet every day without washing them, and what you put on your head is no different. How often you wear a hat shouldn’t have an affect on the amount of hair you lose. If you’re worried about the amount of hair you’re losing, speak to your GP. Thankfully, scientists and innovators have made significant advancements in hair restoration over the last few years. The NeoGraft® Hair Transplant System is the first minimally invasive, automated “follicular unit extraction” procedure available.

Because hair loss is mainly genetic, you may not be able to can’t completely prevent baldness. But there are some things you can do to avoid preventable types of hair loss. Hot oil hair treatments and permanents (perms) may harm the hair follicles on top of your head, causing them to become inflamed and the hair to fall out. If the hair follicles begin to scar, the hair might be lost permanently. Can wearing a hat really rub the hair follicles on your head so much that it causes your hair to fall out?

Specializing in advanced hair restoration, we understand the complexities of hair health. Typically, hair will start growing back within three to six months after chemotherapy treatments have ended, per the Mayo Clinic. Hats, even tight ones, are unlikely to cause hair loss on their own, but they might pull out hair that was already on its way to falling out. When the process of hair loss and growth is unbalanced, you may begin to lose hair.

90 Easy DIY Christmas Decorations Cheap DIY Christmas Decor

Red berries and frosted Christmas trees in varying heights lend holiday touches to the natural arrangement, which could be used throughout the fall and winter seasons. Don't neglect outdoor patios and porches in your Christmas decorating. Because we live in the South, our winters are much more mild, and we can use our screen porches all the way through the Christmas season. Decorate your outdoor spaces with wreaths, candles, and large glowing orbs to draw guests outside to cozy up by the fire. This understated yet festive outdoor spaces is perfect for casual gatherings. We love the rustic candlesticks seen on the table of this back porch.

Fill Your Home With Candles

Whoever said "three's a crowd" obviously never saw how wonderful and festive three wreaths look when displayed on a front door during the holiday season. Keep them spaced apart or tie together with wire so they appear to be connected. Weave natural or painted pinecones into each wreath, secure with wire, and tie a matching ornamental bow on the top to make it holiday-worthy. Border your doorframe with matching evergreen garland, and cluster pinecones at the top of the frame to echo the wreaths' elements.

Felt Letter Christmas Garland

We suggest using this edgy arrangement to compliment other nontraditional design elements. A white brick Colonial is a stately canvas for holiday decorating. The wreaths, swags, garlands, and gate decoration took a color cue from the home's green-black shutters and bright copper lanterns. Add an unexpected detail to a monochromatic Christmas tree by hanging your tree topper from the ceiling. First, choose a shape that plays off your Christmas ornaments, as this round paper lantern mirrors the round ornaments on the tree. Attach a ceiling hook right above your tree's tallest point then, float the lantern by hanging it from a bow attached to the hook.

Decorate the Kitchen Window

Place that on a piece of florist wire that's been trimmed to a length about ½ inch shorter than the stems. Using dark green florist tape, attach the stripped portions to the wire. Gently bend the wire to make a horseshoe shape, and then manipulate the greenery to follow suit, bending and securing it to the wire with florist tape as needed. Finish it with a bow tied around the wreath's center to hide the construction.

For an unexpected twist, loop decorative ribbon around pretzels and dried pasta. Once the holidays are over, remove the monofilament or ribbon and pop the pantry items into a compost bin. The long serving tray, filled with more acorns and a bowl, visually balances the display. Adjust the colors of the paint to coordinate with your table linens. Michigan decorator Kelly Rinzema updated her grandmother's sideboard with coats of red paint and topped it with a wooden container of fresh greens. She created the sign from scrap boards held together by trim pieces nailed to the back.

Then, we’ll embellish with natural materials thru fall and bring out a few colorful touches into December that foretell the theme inside. Both holly and white pine are native to New Jersey, and branches of either variety make for beautiful fireplace mantle decorations. Ask your local nursery which variety of greenery they offer for the holiday season, then display accordingly on your mantle or even as a centerpiece on your dining-room table. The easiest way to incorporate Greenery into your home décor around the holidays is to choose accessories that showcase the shade. These add dimension to a room without completely changing the original aesthetic.

Little details may seem like a waste of energy, but they won’t go unnoticed when paired with other festive décor. “Consider replacing bookends in a bookcase with whimsical holiday figures and items,” Maria Gerlach says. The small swap may not make a big impact, but it will play a role in making your space feel more festive.

These vine-like wreaths are a subtle nod to both traditional table settings, and traditional wreaths. Little touches like this will help you complete your natural Christmas decorating theme without going over the top. One of the oldest, most traditional Southern decorating techniques has got to be the old fruit-in-glass-vase technique.

Not all napkin rings are created the same, and traditional table settings may not suit your natural holiday decor. For more casual holiday gatherings, forgo the stuffy, silver napkin rings. Small grapevine napkin rings, available at craft stores and florists, are perfect substitutes. Tie each onto a cloth napkin using a soft, satin ribbon in a color that matches your napkins.

From the front door to the entryway, living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and beyond, there are ideas to suit every space and style. Add a glamorous touch to your holiday decor by experimenting with gold leaf sheets. Apply gold leaf to actual dried leaves or faux leaves to upgrade a table setting, decorate a mantel or add to a holiday garland. Rather than tossing your wine or beverage bottles, turn them into elegant holiday decor.

We're loudly, proudly Midwestern, and we're passionate about helping our audience explore and create through award-winning storytelling. Lining your mantel with holiday cards may be an obvious choice. But it’s the kind of tried-and-true tradition that never gets old. The Evolving Danger of the New Bird Flu The New York Times

First, it could allow the outbreak to get much bigger, much faster, which might increase the risk to the food supply. And we might also expect it to increase the risk to farm workers, people who might be in contact with these sick cows. Just one of the things that sets Wild Bryde apart is the sheer variety of our line. Teachers, naturalists and animal rehabilitation workers are among our biggest fans.

These are scientists that have studied these seals for decades. And they said they’ve never seen anything like it before. And it’s now been reported on a number of dairy farms across eight US states. And that’s just something that’s totally unprecedented.

So as we saw with COVID, the vaccine can sometimes stop you from getting sick, but it doesn’t necessarily stop infection. And so countries are worried they might unknowingly import products that are harboring the virus.

But the fact that there’s any cow-to-cow transmission happening at all is enough to have scientists a bit concerned. Yes, and I should be clear that represents two things. So some of those birds are birds who naturally got infected and died from the virus. But the vast majority of them are birds that were proactively culled. What it adds up to is, is 90 million farmed birds in the US have died since this virus emerged.

And they’re getting nervous, in particular, about the fact that this virus is reaching places and species where it’s never been before. One thing that comes up again and again and again in my interviews with people who have been studying bird flu for decades, is how this virus never stops surprising them. And sometimes those are bad surprises, like these elephant seal die-offs, the incursions into dairy cattle. But there are some encouraging signs that have emerged recently. We’re starting to see some early evidence that some of the bird populations that survived early brushes with this virus might be developing some immunity. So that’s something that maybe could help slow the spread of this virus in animal populations.

So wild birds are the reservoir for the virus, which means they carry it in their bodies with them around the world as they fly and travel and migrate. And most of the time, these wild birds, like ducks and geese, don’t even get very sick from this virus. So the way it’s spreading in wild animals, even in remote places like Antarctica, that’s important to watch, at least in part because there’s a real danger to people here.

Egg prices were through the roof last year, and we learned it was related to this. Avian flu has been surging in the United States. We just don’t entirely know how this is going to play out. And so that’s one reason scientists are trying to keep such a close, attentive eye on what’s happening. So, Emily, we started this conversation with a kind of curiosity that “The Daily” had about the price of eggs. And then somehow we ended up learning about an ecological disaster that’s unfolding all around us, and potentially the source of the next human pandemic.

And once it gets into a population packed on a beach, say, of elephant seals, it’s just like a knife through butter. Right now, the likelihood that a farmer who gets this virus passes it on is pretty low. But any time you see mammal-to-mammal transmission, it increases the chance that the virus will adapt and possibly, maybe one day get good at spreading between humans. To be clear, that’s not something that there’s any evidence happening in cows right now.

None of this is necessarily happening tomorrow. One is just how much virus is out there in the environment being shed by wild birds into water and onto beaches. These are also places that viruses like this haven’t been before. So it’s reaching elephant seals and sea lions in South America that have no prior immunity. And then if we think more expansively beyond what’s happening on farms, there’s another big danger lurking out there.

Another thing that has been weird about this virus is it has jumped into other kinds of farms. It is the first time we’ve seen a bird flu virus jump into US livestock. Bird flu refers to a bunch of different viruses that are adapted to spread best in birds. Wild water birds, in particular, are known for carrying these viruses. And flu viruses are famous for also being shapeshifters. So they’re constantly swapping genes around and evolving into new strains.

And as you mentioned back in the ‘90s, a new version of bird flu, a virus known as H5N1, emerged in Asia. And it has been spreading on and off around the world since then, causing periodic outbreaks. The outbreak of bird flu currently tearing through the nation’s poultry is the worst in U.S. history.

They’re talking about the virus spreading through wild animal populations so quickly and so ferociously that they’re calling it an ecological disaster. And we are now seeing the virus move through colonies of not only seabirds and seals, but penguin colonies, which have not been exposed to these viruses before. So basically, this virus is spreading to places it’s never been before, kind of virgin snow territory, where animals just don’t have the immunity against it.

I mean, I didn’t know any of this before having this conversation with you, and it feels pretty worrying.

Welcome to Wild Bryde!

These are scientists that have studied these seals for decades. And they said they’ve never seen anything like it before. And it’s now been reported on a number of dairy farms across eight US states. And that’s just something that’s totally unprecedented.

And that’s what happens when this virus gets into wild animals, vast populations that we can’t control. Yes, so I have been covering this virus for the last few years. And the bird flu is absolutely tearing through poultry flocks, and that is affecting egg prices. That’s a concern for everyone, for me and for my family. But when it comes to scientists, egg prices are pretty low on their list of concerns. Because they see this bird flu virus behaving differently than previous versions have.

Well, because this threat isn’t new, there is a pretty well-established playbook for containing outbreaks. And brutally, what it means is killing the birds. So the virus is so deadly in this highly pathogenic form that it’s sort of destined to kill all the birds on a farm anyway once it gets in.

Here at Wild Bryde we're passionate about animals, nature and jewelry design. And for over 30 years we've been delighting naturelovers everywhere with our beautiful jewelry creations, made right here in our studio in Northern California. Get here all kinds of colorful resources in various styles, such as hand-drawn, realistic or cartoon.

Well, the reason it’s become such a threat is because of how widespread it’s become in wild birds. So they keep reintroducing it to wild animal populations pretty much anywhere they go. So we’ve seen the virus repeatedly pop up in all sorts of animals that you might figure would eat a wild bird, so foxes, bobcats, bears. We actually saw it in a polar bear, raccoons. There’s also the fact that these particular species, these sea lions and seals, tend to breed in these huge colonies all crowded together on beaches. And so what that means is if a virus makes its way into the colony, it’s very conducive conditions for it to spread.

And scientists think that that’s actually what’s happening now. That it’s not just that all these seals are picking up the virus from individual birds, but that they’re actually passing it to each other. It is scary, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed by it. And I feel like I should take a step back and say none of this is inevitable.
